Saturday 20th August 2011 Summer Show
The Flower, Fruit and Vegetable Show was enjoyed
by all who attended, the weather was kind, though a little windy and gave
Emily Webb's scarecrow a bit of a battering, by entering all the classes
in her age range, Emily pipped her elder sister Georgie in the girls classes
to win the Girls Cup, Henry Cox won the Boys Cup, amongst the Adults Carole
Jeffes did extremely well by winning the most points in the Flower Arranging
section, the best Flower Arranging section exhibit, the best flower section
exhibit and the Joan Baker Geranium trophy, George Tarr won the most points
in the Flower section and also the Jim Barge Dahlia cup for the most points
in the Dahlia section, Sue Gibson won the trophy for the most points in
the fruit section and David Hunt in the photography section, Anita Cargill
won the Cup in the Cookery section , Beryl and Patrick Howell won the Cup
for the best kept Summer garden, Godfrey Fryer won the cup for the most
points in the Vegetable section and the Sid and Eira Memorial Trophy for
the most points in the whole show, Harry Evans vegetables would give Medwyn
Williams a run for his money but it was his enormous cabbages that won
the Bill Noad Silver Salver for the best Vegetable exhibit, so despite
a difficult growing year with lack of enough rain, thanks to all the entrants
for their skills the show was another resounding success.
