SLIMBRIDGE GARDENING CLUB
August 2016 - Summer Show - Saturday 20th

The rain and blustery gales did not dampen the spirits of the exhibitors.
Carole Jeffes swept the board with her cut flowers and flower arrangements, gaining the most points in Show and winning the coveted Silver Challenge Cup for the first time in her showing history.
The trophy for the most points in the vegetable section was won by Michael Clift and the best vegetable exhibit was the supreme quality parsnips grown by Harry Evans.
There was stiff competition in the Cookery Section with 9 entries of Lemon Drizzle Cake alone. Kim Webb and Pat Clutterbuck gained equal points to share the Cookery Trophy.
Neil Howarth took home the Clifton Cameras Cup for most points gained in the photography section and keeping it in the family, his granddaughter Emilia, took home one of the children's cups for most points in the Children's Section.
Some new Children's Classes were added this year, which included "Community Planters". The first prize going to Slimbridge Scouts Cobra Patrol. "The Tallest Sunflower" was won by Harry Terrett, whose plant reached the dizzy height of 2,64m (264,16cm, 8ft 8in, 104").
The Summer Garden Competition was judged as the "Best Wildlife Garden" and won by Judy Chandra of Cambridge.
Visitors in the afternoon were impressed with the quality and range of entries and enjoyed a cup of tea and cake after viewing the exhibits.
The committee would like to thank all entrants and visitors who helped make it such a success.
