Slimbridge Gardening Club

The Club is now in it's 82nd year, until the start of 2012 it was known as Slimbridge Horticultural Society, it has been over twelve years since it changed to Slimbridge Gardening Club. It started life as The Slimbridge Home Food Production Club - formed about 1942 as part of the Dig for Victory campaign. From their earliest days, they had an annual produce show. Even through the Pandemic years of 2020-21 the Club has kept going with Virtual Events, Shows and Talks. We got back to some sort of normality in time for the 2021 Summer Show and a few Tuesday meetings, we were be back to our usual two shows per year - one in March/April with the emphasis on Spring flowers and a Summer Show in late August with a full range of vegetable, flower, flower arranging, cookery and photography classes. We are particularly keen on encouraging our younger members and both shows have children's gardening and handicraft sections with cash prizes and cups. Please note that our shows are open to all. We do look forward to welcoming visitors in the afternoon from 2-4pm in the Village Hall opposite the Church. Why not call in on your way to the Wildfowl & Wetlands Centre?

We are affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society, which has enabled us to offer members coach trips with free entry to Wisley and Rosemoor. Members may also receive a circulation copy of the RHS magazine "The Garden".

In 1999 we entered the Chelsea Flower Show hanging basket and window box competition and were awarded a bronze medal. We repeated this success the following year when the competition transferred to the Hampton Court Show.
